Boom time for actors to work and earn more, says casting director Ahana Mohammed

“The market for casting in Bollywood films, short films and television serials has grown manifold after the dominance of internet,” says the Indian film industry’s leading casting director Ahana Mohammed.

The lady who has been in the business of casting actors and actresses for many top projects and assisted in arranging select key artistes in movies like Bang Baaja Baaraat, Yaariyan, Grand Masti and Agneepath, feels its boom time for her business.

A mass media graduate in advertising and marketing, the sought-after casting director has a rich experience of nine years in the business of casting and artist management. Along with handling the casting for film, television and music artistes, she often manages a lot of models for the fashion circuit as well.

“We have around 500 Bollywood films being made every year and almost the same amount of television serials, daily soaps and entertainment programmes across the wide spectrum of TV channels. The best part is that now there are even a whole lot of short films and music videos to be tapped on the internet. It’s never been a better time for actors to get work, expand their horizons beyond movies and earn more,” analyzes Ahana. She makes it a point to add that inspite of this boom, “the film and modeling industry has a tremendous potential for growth.”

“Earlier advertising was restricted to print media and television. But that has changed over the last three years. Online advertising is fast catching up and many companies are now allocating almost half of their publicity budget to internet advertising. Thus the market is expanding rapidly and so is the need for established as well as newer faces,” concludes Ahana.

Thesis and Dissertations on Bollywood PR

Sreetama Karmakar from NSHM Institute of Media and Design, Kolkata, interviewed me this week for her thesis. She is in the final semester of her Masters in Media Science. Her dissertation topic is ‘Importance of Public Relations in the Film Industry’ and I hope she is happy with the gyaan I tried to give her.

Thesis Dissertations Bollywood PR

Image building is better than publicity or crisis management. -Dale Bhagwagar

I wonder why many actors and actresses realise the importance of PR only when their career goes spiralling down. When they realise they are not making the monies they should be making, they decide to spend on PR and salvage or extend their career. Instead of ‘image building’ at an earlier stage, a PR has to then look at ‘publicity’ and ‘crisis management’. –Dale Bhagwagar

A PR view of why Bigg Boss gets top of the list billing

I feel, Bigg Boss gets the highest billing among reality shows not because Salman Khan hosts it. It gets top billing because it has been customised to bring out the best and worst of human emotions. Because it plays on fear and love… more importantly, on fear… which is a stronger emotion than love.

British Asian actors need PR through the right publicists in Bollywood, says Stardust India editor

Sumita Chakraborty, the editor of Stardust India has given an interesting, informative and insightful interview to Hamant Verma of BizAsia. She aptly describes how PR has taken control over perception-building in entertainment journalism. She also mentions how “hiring the right publicists and agents” can be one of the important aspects for British Asian actors “to build a successful career in Bollywood”. She talks about Upen Patel, whom I handled PR for when he entered Bollywood… and also Katrina Kaif, whose debut film Boom was publicized by me. All in all, Sumita’s interview is a fantabulous read.

Ashmit Patel’s parents appeal to ‘save’ their son

With just a day remaining for Bigg Boss Season 4 to come to an end, contestant Ashmit Patel’s parents, Asha and Amit Patel, are keeping their fingers crossed for their son.

Though Ashmit has repeatedly proved that he is the ‘most genuine’ Housemate, the boy is facing very strong competition from Shweta Tiwari, Dolly Bindra as well as The Great Khali.

Meanwhile, there is widespread speculation about ex-contestant Manoj Tiwari having ‘bought’ and manipulated votes by the lakhs to make his old friend Shweta Tiwari win the show.

Ashmit’s parents have appealed to all to ‘save’ their son from losing. “Please help our son Ashmit in his quest for righteousness. He is a fighter and has always stood for ethics with uprightness and honesty. In his hour of need, we feel he is lonely in Bigg Boss and needs your help,” they appealed.

For the sake of righteousness, Ashmit has been witnessed standing firm against the unruly Dolly Bindra, an arrogant Manoj Tiwari, and holding his own, even against The Great Khali, when the WWE strongman was physically pushing Housemates in the show.

If you too feel for Ashmit’s genuine nature, you can vote for him upto 99 times by sms’ing ASH to 56882 and help the righteous one survive the ones with nastiness and double standards.

Shweta Tiwari, Dolly Bindra, The Great Khali DITCH ‘genuine’ Ashmit Patel!

When Bigg Boss gave the remaining four Housemates the liberty to make a unanimous decision about removing any one contestant from the House, they were all clear about whose names they would take.

Shweta Tiwari and The Great Khali wanted Dolly Bindra to leave and they discussed this in detail. In turn, Dolly wanted Shweta to leave. But Ashmit Patel voluntarily accepted to leave the House if that made the other Housemates happy. At this time, all the three other contestants strongly objected to Ashmit’s words and sacrifice, saying he should not leave. They reassured him that they stood by him and supported his continued stay in the House.

But when Bigg Boss asked the Housemates about their final decision, to everyone’s surprise, ALL three of the others – Dolly Bindra, The Great Khali as well as Shweta Tiwari – took a U-turn, unabashedly deserting and ditching Ashmit Patel for their personal gain of staying put in the House.

Exposing their double-standards, they all agreed to Ashmit’s ouster, without giving it second thought.

But God had other plans for the most genuine man on the show. As it turned out to be, Bigg Boss asked Ashmit to open the mysterious ‘red box’ which was given to Dolly two days ago, and the person who was voted out by the contestants, was not only allowed to stay back in the House, but also earned an extra prize money of five lakhs.

“Jaako raakhe saiya maar sake na koi,” remarked Ashmit’s publicist Dale Bhagwagar outside the House. If you too feel for Ashmit’s genuine nature, you can vote for him upto 99 times. Just sms ASH to 56882 as many times as possible and help the righteous man survive the ones with double standards.
