Pakodas and chutney with Ajay Devgn and Abhishek Bachchan!

Movie promotions in Bollywood are reaching new levels every year. Another glaring example of this is the latest strategy being adopted by Rathi Group of Cinemas, which owns a chain of single-screen cinema halls across central India.

For the release of Rohit Shetty’s Bol Bachchan this week, featuring Ajay Devgn, Abhishek Bachchan, Asin, Prachi Desai and a special title track featuring Amitabh Bachchan, the group’s director Akshaye Rathi has come up with a unique promotional concept.

The film features Ajay Devgn as a pehalwaan (strongman) from Rajasthan. Bringing in novelty to promotions at the onset of monsoons, Rathi has called in Rajasthani chefs who would be preparing moong dal ke pakode with pudina chutneymirchi ke bade (a delicacy from Jodhpur) and kullad ki adrak waali chai.

“These will be served to the audience during the run of the film,” informs the group’s publicist Dale Bhagwagar. “Serving these dishes which are enjoyed most during the rains, could make the movie going experience more enjoyable,” he adds.

Amitabh Bachchan is NOT dead!

Amitabh Bachchan is NOT dead!

‘Killing’ ageing superstars before their time comes, seems to be one of the in-things the internet and social media have come to specialize in! After fake rumours about Lata Mangeshkar and Rajesh Khanna’s demise this year, now the internet has gone ahead and ‘killed’ megastar Amitabh Bachchan this week.

A Blogspot blog called 24musicvdo.blogspot.in reported Big B’s demise in a “car accident” on its home page a few hours ago; causing panic among Twitterati and Blackberry Messenger (BBM) users who broadcast and discussed it, till they realized it was a false alarm.

According to the said blog, “(Local Team News 9) Amitabh Bachan died in a single vehicle crash on Route 80 between Morristown and Roswell. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics responding to the vehicle accident and was identified by photo ID found on his body. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been a factor in this accident – June 26, 2012.” (sic)

Also carrying photograph of a car turned over, the article added that “The Highway Safety Investigators have told reporters that Amitabh Bachan lost control while driving a friend’s vehicle on Interstate 80 and rolled the vehicle several times killing him instantly.” (sic)

“Memorial services for Amitabh Bachan have not yet been announced. The service is expected to be a closed casket funeral due to the severe head trauma,” (sic) it concluded after a further description of the so-called ‘accident’.

Commenting on such misleading reports, Bollywood PR specialist Dale Bhagwagar smirked, “The bol bachchan (talking big) attitude of the internet and social media often borders on irony when it keeps ‘killing’ superstars.”

“Social media is a very influential and powerful platform, and everyone should be wary of what they broadcast without verifying. When the rumour broke out, Mr Bachchan was happily tweeting almost every 15 minutes. It just takes a little bit of patience and research to check facts, but sadly, not many do that before they jump to conclusions and discussions on the net,” he analyzed.

‘Jam with Sam’ to go viral like ‘Koleveri Di’!

Dubbed as the internet version of ‘Koffee with Karan’, a new chat show ‘Jam with Sam’, specially designed for the net, will go viral, just like ‘Why this Kolaveri Di’ on the world wide web, this week. It will further strengthen its presence through a YouTube channel.

The show’s host, social media expert Sampath Iyengar, while interacting with guests, plans to enthrall surfers with a unique blend of information and wits, akin to smarty pants Shekhar Suman, who once emerged a superstar on Indian television, thanks to a lively presence on a show called ‘Movers and Shakers’.

An interactive high-society event attended by some of the who’s who of the business community was organized this week in Mumbai to announce the new show. Speaking at the launch, Bollywood PR guru Dale Bhagwagar said, “My job is like a ringmaster’s in a media circus. Hope Sampath Iyengar beats me at my game!”

For the first episode of ‘Jam with Sam’, Sampath conducted live hard talks with tech visionary Tushar Sighat of D-Link India; one of the worlds largest IT networking companies and business magnate Shalin Gandhi; who heads one of India’s best custom writing instrument manufacturers Submarine Designer Pens.

Attendees at the launch included, strategic business coach Kiran Ajwani of Innoesis, advertising guru Rajan Raman of India’s oldest ad agency Dattaram Advertising, fitness guru and counselor Karan Hebbar, entrepreneur Sacheen Dalvi of UB Xpress, graphics whiz Rajen Shah of Mod Graphics multimedia design studio, voicing and music master Nandoo Bhende of In Sync Studios, computing security expert Nityanand Shetty of Essen Vision, and trademarks and patents professional Ramu Vedaraman.
