National Award-winning makeup, hair and prosthetic expert Preetisheel Singh is elated at the commercial success of Nitesh Tiwari’s Chhichhore. The film has just crossed the 125 crore mark at the box-office, and is still going strong.

“I’m overwhelmed with the congratulatory calls and messages about the looks in the film. It’s always a nice feeling when you put your heart and soul into something and people notice that effort and appreciate it,” quips a delighted Preetisheel, who carried out multiple transformational looks for the ensemble cast of Chhichhore from their young to old age. “I’m so grateful to director Nitish Tiwari for putting complete faith in my work,” adds the makeover whiz.

“Chhichhore has caught the imagination of audiences and made many nostalgic about their college days,” Preetisheel points out. “This is the first time that we had to work on an ensemble cast of six. Getting everyone ready simultaneously was quite a task as everyone had prosthetic work involved. But the actors were really cooperative and so patient throughout the whole process.”

Preetisheel has earlier been behind some of the best looks of a plethora of top Bollywood stars like Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan, Ayushmann Khurrana, Deepika Padukone, Kangana Ranaut, Madhuri Dixit, Nawazuddin Siddiqui,  Radhika Apte, Ranveer Singh, Salman Khan, Shahid Kapoor and Sunny Deol.

Mrs. India Guyana Kristal Inshan feeds the underprivileged before flying to India

Mrs. India Guyana Kristal Inshan is soon to participate in the Mrs. India Worldwide beauty pageant at The Leela, Mumbai. The event is about to witness the most beautiful and talented contestants from over 40 countries, competing for the Miss and Mrs. India Worldwide titles, judged by a celebrity panel of judges, with a host of guests expected from Bollywood and Hollywood.

Kristal Inshan 11

But Kristal is in news for something else this week. She believes in doing more for charity than most beauty queens promise on stage. Kristal not only enjoys spending holidays with friends and loved ones, but makes it a point to make time for the less fortunate and make their celebrations special too. Growing up with struggles of a poor life, she has learned to smile and be kind hearted more than anything else.

Kristal Inshan 15

Recently, when she was to celebrate her birthday, her first thought was not to celebrate with a party or outing, but cook with her mother’s help for underprivileged children of a village next to her hometown Georgetown in Guyana.

Kristal Inshan 12

Her ideal great birthday was to share a home-cooked meal with the children. “Bringing happiness to those who have nothing makes my birthday that much more special,” she says. A few days after her birthday, she along with her mother decided to cook some of the best of Indian dishes, after which they headed to a local orphanage to feed the underprivileged once again.

Kristal Inshan 14

While at the orphanage, she noticed that a teenage girl didn’t have proper eyeglasses. She took her to an eye doctor, and purchased a pair of eyeglasses for her. That’s not all! Every Christmas, Kristal orders toys in bulk, and distributes them at a local village to give each child a gift and let them know how special they are.

Chhichhore and Bala bring accolades for look designer Preetisheel Singh

If the trailer of Nitish Tiwari’s Chhichhore and teaser of Amar Kaushik’s Bala are anything to go by, the audiences are in for a visual treat in terms of look transformations of the main cast. And the lady behind the looks of the entire lead cast in the films — India’s numero uno makeup, hair and prosthetic designer Preetisheel Singh — has good reason to feel proud.

Both the movies have actors in their aging avatars and Preetisheel’s work has been receiving a new wave of accolades, after all the recognition it received earlier for films like Padmaavat, Bajirao Mastani, Andhadhun, Mom, Mulk, 102 Not Out, Thackeray and many others.

“Look transformations are an integral part of the storylines of both these movies, and it was a challenge and responsibility for me to make them look convincing and believable. I am so happy people are appreciating my work,” says a modest Preetisheel, who’d won the ‘National Film Award for Best Makeup’ for her very first film — the pre-Mughal historical epic Nanak Shah Fakir based on the life of Guru Nanak.

Preetisheel Singh - Pic 21

She makes it a point to thank the filmmakers of all her movies for putting their trust and faith in her work. “Without their faith, I wouldn’t have been able to do all this,” she says. Having taken her career graph a few steps further towards more recognition and glory, the lady has no time for a breather. The next few months have her working on a dozen films back-to-back, as well as starting the ‘Preetisheel School of Character Design’ at Versova, Mumbai.

Some of the forthcoming movies in her kitty include the Akshay Kumar-starrer Housefull 4, Nawazuddin Siddiqui-Radhika Apte-starrer Raat Akeli Hai, Kartik Aaryan-Bhumi Pednekar-starrer Pati Patni Aur Woh, Southern superstar Vijay’s next Bigil, Kangana Ranaut-starrers Panga and Dhaakad, and Bhansali Productions’ Tuesdays and Fridays.

Mrs. India Guyana Kristal Inshan overturns tragedy to participate in Mrs. India Worldwide

Just out from the jaws of death; headed to a beauty pageant

True strength comes with resilience, perseverance and persistence. And if there is one lady who is currently epitomizing this, it is Mrs. India Guyana Kristal Inshan. The beauty queen from Georgetown, Guyana, was all excited to participate in the Mrs. India Worldwide beauty pageant at The Leela, Mumbai, in the first week of September 2019.

The event is about to witness the most beautiful and talented contestants from over 40 countries, competing for the Miss and Mrs. India Worldwide titles, judged by a celebrity panel of judges, with a host of guests expected from Bollywood and Hollywood.

But a week ago, Kristal suffered a life-threatening accident in her hometown in South America. The car she was travelling in, overturned, flipped over three times and crashed on the sidewalk. It was a ghastly crash, just like we see in the movies — only that, this was for real. Kristal, who was on the back seat, miraculously survived — albeit with bleeding cuts, scrapes and bruises. She was rushed to the nearest hospital, where she lay shaken.

Kristal Inshan 1

Imagine the shock and trauma she would have undergone. Anyone in her place would have cancelled her trip to Mumbai and given herself time and rest to recuperate and recover. But not Kristal. She decided she had to take life head on, with a confident smile. Healing from her injuries and a limp, she is ignoring her pain and preparing to go ahead with the upcoming pageant in Mumbai.

Kristal Inshan 3

Apart from being a successful model, Kristal is also a fashion designer and women empowerment speaker. Arriving in a few days in the bustling city of dreams, Kristal intends to take a day off on the beaches of Mumbai and focus on the Mrs. India Worldwide pageant.

Kristal Inshan 4

We’re almost speechless, hearing about this lady’s grit and determination. From so many years, we have heard countless pageant contestants talk so much about strength and resilience on stage. But what Kristal is doing right now, is a living example of all that and more! Just out from the jaws of death, and headed to a beauty pageant — that is something! We salute her strength as our heart goes out to her.

Aavya Gupta charms her way into glamour world with La Fanaa

Aavya Gupta 12

Just a few days ago, beautiful newbie Aavya Gupta was crowned Miss Diva Of India International 2019. And even before the dust has settled on that news, the talented gal surprises us once more! She has just come out with her first single video La Fanaa released by T-Series.

Aavya Gupta 19

Aavya has not only performed in this video as an actress, but has also lent her voice for it. Aha! Reminds us of Julie Andrews, who once enthralled her audiences in the Hollywood classic The Sound Of Music, where she performed, as well as sang her own songs, right at the beginning of her career.

Aavya is taken aback by the response to her debut. “I’m thrilled. When I started out doing advertisements, I wasn’t aware that my career would take a leap,” quips Aavya. “But the Miss Diva Of India International 2019 win gave it a push and now I have already begun getting congratulatory calls and messages for the La Fanaa video. For my humble beginnings, this seems like a dream,” she adds with a smile.

Aavya Gupta 17

If all this is not enough, some on social media have been comparing her with face to Aishwarya Rai. “Please, don’t even go there. It will be too much for me to handle. I am just a newcomer trying to get a foothold in the industry,” smirks Aavya, who admits she gets to hear this comparison once in a while. “I don’t want to be burdened by such comparisons. Don’t even mention it anywhere in media or social media.” Oops! Sorry Aavya, but we already did. 😉

Aavya Gupta 10

So what’s next for this brainy beauty from Mumbai. Bollywood, we guess. “I have my fingers crossed,” is all she reveals.

Preetisheel Singh’s work for Kangana Ranaut’s Dhaakad poster garners praise

Last week has been a rocking one for Bollywood’s numero uno makeup, hair and prosthetic designer Preetisheel Singh. Starting with the poster release of her Southern sojourn Bigil starring South superstar Vijay in a double role, the National Award-winning makeover wiz set up her new office at Versova, replete with artistic murals adorning the walls of the entire building.

Collage -- Make-up, hair and prosthetic specialist Preetisheel Singh, and first-look poster of Kangana Ranaut-starrer Dhaakad.

While quietly working on Paresh Rawal’s look for the biopic on former President APJ Abdul Kalam, Preetisheel’s week also involved giving finishing touches to the looks of Akshay Kumar, Ritesh Deshmukh, Bobby Deol, Rana Dagubatti, Pooja Hegde and veteran villain Ranjeet for Housefull 4, while simultaneously finalizing the interiors of her new office.

That’s not all! The week also saw her design the character look for Bhumi Pednekar, who is prepping for the shoot of Pati Patni Aur Woh; an adaptation of BR Chopra’s 1978 superhit with the same title.

And just as she thought the jam-packed week was coming to an end, the first look poster of the Kangana Ranaut-starrer Dhaakad hit the worldwide web. Yes, Preetisheel has worked on the looks of Kangana for the stunning poster which has been the talk of the town ever since Twitterati caught its first glimpse.

The grunge fiery look of Kangana in it, has been getting rave reviews all over. Talking about the film in an earlier interview, Kangana said, “Dhaakad is not only a benchmark film for my career but will be a turning point for Indian cinema as well.”

“The film is mounted on a large scale, and is one-of-a-kind female led action film. If it is received well, there will be no looking back for women in Indian cinema,” Kangana added about Dhaakad, which is being readied for a Diwali 2020 release.

Meanwhile, Preetisheel who has curated looks for highly successful films like Bajirao Mastani, Padmaavat, Housefull 3, 102 Not Out, Mulk, Mom, Thackeray, PM Narendra Modi, Bharat and Andhadhun, is currently busy with others like the Akshay Kumar-starrer Housefull 4, Kangana Ranaut-starrer Panga, Nawazuddin SiddiquiRadhika Apte-starrer Raat Akeli Hai, Bhansali Productions’ Tuesdays and Fridays, and Nitesh Tiwari’s Chhichhore; for which she has designed multiple young and old-age looks for an ensemble lead cast.

Character designer Preetisheel Singh’s new office showcases fantasy with eye-catching murals

Once upon a time, Mumbai used to be famous for poster art and murals. Even today, we look at Mario Mirinda’s paintings at Cafe Mondegar in Colaba and gaze in delight. In recent times, the Mahatama Gandhi mural at Churchgate Station is also looked upon with awe. But from the last few years, not many have explored this art… at least, not in the suburbs.

Collage of Preetisheel Singh with Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Ajay Devgn and Da Makeup Lab.

But that’s just changed this week, with National Award-winning makeup, hair and prosthetic designer Preetisheel Singh and her partner-husband Mark D’souza at their company Da Makeup Lab, having set up their new office in Versova with a huge floral mask mural on its two-storied building wall. It’s the biggest mural on the building, with a face emerging from a large, vivid and burlesque flower.

Preetisheel Singh with her husband Mark D'souza, business head and partner at Da Makeup Lab.

Mark D’souza, business head of Da Makeup Lab explains, “At our company, what we do is transform an actor into a character. The murals depicts that. Here, the art is the flower, and the face is what emerges from this art.”

The ruling queen of prosthetics, Preetisheel Singh, who has designed the looks for Bollywood’s topline actors in films like Padmaavat, Bajirao Mastani, Andhadhun, Mom, Mulk, 102 Not Out, Thackeray and many others, is about to begin ‘Preetisheel’s School of Character Design’ at this place soon. “We intend to let the calm of our surroundings in Versova inspire the imagination of our students when we roll with the school in September,” says Mark.

Murals adorn the new office building of Bollywood's No.1 makeup, hair and prosthetic designer Preetisheel Singh in Versova.

Made by Delhi artist Amrai Dua, the murals are quite a sight for passerbys. So catchy are they, that they can give any eclectic Hollywood studio a run for its money. Apart from the humungous floral mask mural on the front, the second mural is of a fantasy-based devilish creature. The third has three masks, all emoting differently. A portion of the wall has a mural of Preetisheel doing what she knows best, transforming someone with a brush in her hand.

“Prosthetic is quite new to Bollywood. But we have got rave reviews for our work in the last few years. So our aim is to let filmmakers know that drastic transformation of characters are also possible in India. And the artworks are trying to convey that. One of the murals — the creature — is our way of telling people we can do world-class fantasy-based transformations, so the industry should start thinking about it,” says Mark.

Preetisheel Singh designs dual looks for South superstar Vijay

After recently designing mother and daughter looks for Madhuri Dixit for an advertisement, National Award-winning makeup, hair and prosthetic designer Preetisheel Singh, has now designed dual looks for Southern superstar Vijay for his upcoming Tamil flick Bigil.

Preetisheel movies collage 4

Preetisheel, who also received rave reviews recently for curating the looks for Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji in Padmaavat, Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor in 102 Not Out, Ayushman Khurrana in Andhadhun and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in and as Thackeray, is excited as the first look poster of Bigil is out.

Preetisheel movies collage 5

She has good reason to be. Because Vijay’s look in the film is unlike anything he has done before. The Southern hearththrob will be seen in two different avatars of father and son in the film directed by Atlee and having music by AR Rahman.

Preetisheel Singh - Pic 14

“Hours of study have gone into building the character designs,” says Preetisheel. “We didn’t want to lose the authenticity of the character or miss out on the aura projected by the legendary Vijay. Keeping this in mind, for the father’s role, we added wrinkles around his laugh lines and on his forehead, using special-effects make-up. Along with that, we gave him salt ‘n pepper hair which gave a classier touch.”

Preetisheel movies collage 3

For his son’s character, Vijay was given “the trendy look that footballers of the current generation carry,” informs Preetisheel. She mentions that the superstar is a pleasure to work with. “Very humble and down-to-earth, Vijay not only showers trust, but patiently allows the team to work without interference. Both the actor and director put full faith in our vision and art, and that has immensely helped,” she concludes.

Bigil poster

Apart from Bigil, Preetisheel is looking forward to many films, including the Akshay Kumar-starrer Housefull 4, Kangana Ranaut-starrer Panga, Nawazuddin SiddiquiRadhika Apte-starrer Raat Akeli Hai and Nitesh Tiwari’s Chhichhore; for which she has designed multiple young and old-age looks for an ensemble lead cast.

Powerhouse performer Madhuri Dixit has experimented with loads of looks and characters in her movies. But what she has recently done for a commercial, seems to have outdone many-a-looks she has been seen in earlier.

Preetisheel with Madhuri on the sets

Madhuri has played a double role in a new advertisement for Aquaguard water purifier, where she essays the characters of both, mother and daughter. That’s not the only highlight of it. What Madhuri stuns with, is the aged getup. The finesse with which it is curated, and the effortlessness and versatility with which Madhuri has carried it out, is seen to be believed.

The double role transformation for the diva has been executed by none other than India’s most popular look designer, Preetisheel Singh. Yes, the same makeup, hair and prosthetic expert, who has given us the stunning looks of many-an-artist in movies such as Padmaavat, Bajirao Mastani, Mom, 102 Not Out, Mulk, Thackeray and Andhadhun. As for this one — it just raises the bar.

For the record, Madhuri had earlier received accolades for playing mother and daughter with excellence in the 1992 K.Vishwanath film Sangeet, as well as the 1993 Mehul Kumar film Aasoo Bane Angaarey.
