Bollywood insiders react to Rakhi Vijan’s TV role resembling Radhe Maa

radhe-maa-left-and-rakhi-vijan-right-1

Our films and television serials often make a mockery out of religious preachers. The latest are the press reports about television actress Rakhi Vijan playing godwoman Radhe Maa, nicknamed ‘Ghoongat Wali Mata’ in a daily soap Gangaa on &TV. So is playing godly personalities on television the new ‘in thing’?

radhe-maa-pic-1

Sanjeev Gupta of Global Advertisers, patrons of Radhe Maa, is learning to take such nuances in his stride. “People mix piousness with frivolity nowadays,” he says. “And no amount of spirituality or knowledge seems to control their amateurish thoughts,” Gupta adds with sarcasm.

radhe-maa-pic-2

Acclaimed Bollywood filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt terms the phenomenon as “unique”. Television superstar and popular film actor Ram Kapoor feels, “this is absolutely fine. You need to remember that all these characters in TV serials are fictional. They are meant to entertain and not to be taken too seriously.”

radhe-maa-pic-3

Actress and firebrand social activist Pooja Bedi remarks, it’s all about entertainment. “From cops, judges, lawyers, religious figures, to religion itself… everything is susceptible to being caricatured.”

radhe-maa-pic-4

She explains, that “the problem is not the world of entertainment. It’s us taking what’s meant to be entertainment, too seriously.” The spunky Priya Malik of Bigg Boss fame feels, “Radhe Maa is more famous for her antics than she is about religion. Plus, we live in a democracy and hence there’s nothing wrong with it.”

So there goes. Different people, different views. Sanjeev Gupta has the last word. “Even our Prime Minister Narendra Modi propagates diversity for a vibrant democracy. So what’s important is to show mutual respect and keep decorum even while one shows or portrays a difference of opinion.” True that.

radhe-maa-left-and-rakhi-vijan-right-2

In the meantime, no amount of controversy, seems to be stopping the godwoman. Radhe Maa’s fame and reach only grows from strength to strength. This week, she contributed a sum to one Shree Sai Dwarkadheera Padyatri Mandal to help downtrodden people living in the hutments of remote areas in Borivali East in Mumbai. Woah!

Pranav Sachdeva gives Shah Rukh Khan’s Darr character an EVIL TWIST

pranav-sachdeva-pic-1

“Jadoo teri nazar, khushboo tera badan, tu haan kar, ya naa kar, tu hai meri Kiran,” sang the obsessive Shah Rukh Khan in Yash Chopra’s Darr… and the rest is history.

pranav-sachdeva-pic-2

Many actors have tried to ape the psycho lover Rahul that SRK played on silver screen, but it has never been attempted on television. That is changing with Pranav Sachdeva’s key role as the two-faced character he plays in Deepak Sharma’s gripping daily soap Agar Tum Saath Ho, produced by Gulshan Sachdeva for the revamped Zindagi channel.

pranav-sachdeva-pic-3

“It’s a triangle with a difference,” says Pranav, adding that he has tried to enact the role with further nuances. “Ironically, my character in the soap is called Ram — a name people relate with extreme goodness. Ram too is a great guy until he gets obsessive in love, so much so that he becomes tormenting,” reveals Pranav.

pranav-sachdeva-pic-4

The actor points out that “Rahul of Darr was an eccentric stalker. He was possessive, bordering on psychotic. Inspite of all the similarities, Ram is different. He is evil in a much less obvious way. He’s not a psycho or a stalker, but is immensely selfish and wicked, yet charismatic and witty. He uses his charm and corporate business power to find his way out of situations.”

pranav-sachdeva-pic-5

“But like Rahul, Ram only cares about what he wants and gives two hoots about the other guy. These are shades which makes him scarier.” Come to think of it, such were the shades that made SRK’s iconic character of Darr start off as charmingly crazy, only to turn eerily spooky by the end.

Ram Kamal Mukherjee’s book inspired by Bollywood’s DARK SECRETS!

book-cover-of-ram-kamal-mukherjees-long-island-iced-tea

Hard-nosed Bollywood journalist Ram Kamal Mukherjee’s name in Bollywood elicits a blend of alarm and fascination. Some of the most famous film stars and media agents have been either his sworn enemies or closest allies.

ram-kamal-mukherjee-pic-1

So for Ram to come out with a book inspired by his experiences, is something to look forward to. However, the unique aspect of his upcoming book will be that Ram won’t be chronicling his escapades in Bollywood, like most journalists normally do in their books. Instead, he has chosen to go for an abstract fiction genre, though liberally borrowing from his experiences with the who’s who of Bollywood.

ram-kamal-mukherjee-pic-3

His book ‘Long Island Iced Tea’ will be released by Leadstart Publishing next month. Through various stories, the mood of the book is expected to swing from sober to slut, from dark love to wild lust.

ram-kamal-mukherjee-pic-2

“This is my first attempt at writing something which is beyond my comfort zone, as fiction has not been my forte as a journalist. Though some film stars have accused me of writing fictional interviews in tabloids,” smirks the journalist-turned-author. “Finally, their fears have come true with this book,” he laughs.

And what’s with the title ‘Long Island Iced Tea’, we inquire. “There are eight essential ingredients cocktailed to make the classic Long Island iced tea, which originated at the Oak Beach at Long Island in New York. Without any one of them, the zing would be missing. Likewise, there are eight stories in the book,” Ram explains.

swarup-nanda-leadstart-publishing

The book’s publisher Swarup Nanda is equally excited about the release of ‘Long Island Iced Tea’. “I had always heard about Ram Kamal Mukherjee in the context of his scandalous and notorious stories on Bollywood stars. But when I read the short fictional stories inspired from various incidents in his life, I found them charmingly simple, yet thought-provoking. This book is what breezy reading is all about.”

soma-mangnaanii-7

While she is in talks with production houses as well as channels for the show, Soma reveals that “the unique part about the series is that it’s going to take the viewer back in time, when beauty was not only about looking hot and sexy, but also a thing about the feeling from within.”

soma-mangnaanii-8

The actress is also the Secretary for BJP’s Sindhi Cell in Bandra, Mumbai. She earlier contested the local polls as an independent candidate from Bandra locality, and even hopes to represent the party in the upcoming BMC elections in February 2017.

soma-mangnaanii-1

Apart from acting and politics, the multi-faceted Soma dabbles in painting, designing, luxury brands and runs an NGO called Muktangan International Foundation. Dhyani Dave sought after as Bigg Boss recalls Priyanka Jagga

dhyani-dave-12

International chess master Dhyani Dave is being flattered on social media for analyzing the developments in Bigg Boss just like a game of chess. Whatever she says about BB10, seems to be falling in place.

After Dhyani correctly predicted that contestants Karan Mehra and Lokesh Kumari would be eliminated in the double eviction on the show, her friends and fans were coaxing her to calculate more and more of the Boss’ moves.

dhyani-dave-13

A few days ago, she told the media that Bigg Boss needs to prop up its TRP by recalling the thunderous Priyanka Jagga back on the show and getting her “tickled to death.”

dhyani-dave-14

Some thought she was just speculating, but they got a shock when a day later, news about Jagga re-entering Bigg Boss started doing the rounds. And now the attention guzzler of the season is actually back on the show with a bang.

dhyani-dave-2

“I don’t find decoding Bigg Boss such a big deal,” quips Dhyani, who once played chess simultaneously with 150 contestants. “I take a four-pronged approach. I try to decipher the game from a practical viewpoint, business perspective, drama quotient, as well as a human psyche standpoint,” she reveals.

international-chess-master-dhyani-dave-with-aamir-khan

Given her expertise in the mind-game of chess, we can understand that. But what we are wondering about is, whether anyone currently on the show, does have the guts to “tickle” Priyanka Jagga in the first place! Unless the seemingly bold Dhyani herself agrees to do the needful!! Lol.

Dhyani Dave wants Priyanka Jagga recalled and TICKLED TO DEATH on Bigg Boss!

file-pic-of-dhyani-dave-with-narendra-modi-and-viswanathan-anand

Dhyani Dave is no ordinary girl. She is a 25-year-old international chess master from Gujarat who’s had lunch with President Pranab Mukherjee for being voted as one of the 100 top women achievers of India in 2016. She features in the Limca Book of Records for competing simultaneously with 150 chess players. She’s been felicitated by Prime Minister Narendra Modiwhen he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, and has had the privilege to play chess with Bollywood’s most intelligent megastar Aamir Khan a couple of times.

dhyani-dave-7

We are not sure if the other megastar Salman Khan would take kindly to this; but Dhyani also loves to dissect India’s most popular reality show Bigg Bosslike nobody’s business. And just like a great game of chess, she watches the show every night and schemes, plots and plans moves for the contestants, hoping they would somehow (through some magical fate) be able to follow her mind.

dhyani-dave-9

“Sadly, they seldom do,” Dhyani laments as she laughs. “They prefer to shout and scream, more than manipulate with their minds,” adds the wiz of chessboard mind games. So going by the low-TRP reports this season, what’s the one thing that Dhyani (or rather her mind) feels, should be incorporated in Bigg Boss 10 to prop up the programme without delay.

dhyani-dave-10

“Oh Simple,” exclaims Dhyani. “BB10 had an annoying over-loud woman, whose voice sometimes failed to come out properly. Her name was Priyanka Jagga. Get her back on the show and tickle-torture her to death.” LOL. ‘Tickle-torture!’ ROTFL. Now that’s some checkmate plan. But we wonder who will accept the responsibility to execute it :p

dhyani-dave-11

“And yes, Jagga needs to spend some quality time with VJ Bani and learn English,” chuckles Dhyani. Gee! ‘Quality time.’ ‘QUALITY time’ and Priyanka Jagga! This Dave girl sure has a great sense of humour which could turn BB into DiDi’s Comedy Show…. or shall we say, ‘tickling’ comedy show 😉

Dhyani Dave’s Bigg Boss predictions come true!

dhyani-dave-4

India’s international chess master Dhyani Dave’s predictions about Bigg Boss 10 contestants Karan Mehra and Lokesh Kumari’s eviction have surprisingly come true.

dhyani-dave-5

She had analyzed that Karan and Lokesh would be eliminated, while Rahul Dev and Monalisa will remain in the Bigg Boss house. And that is exactly what megastar host Salman Khan announced on the reality show in the weekend episode.

dhyani-dave-6

Dhyani who is popularly known as ‘the calculation queen of the chessboard’ believes that Bigg Boss is a mind-game. “Once you grasp the moves in chess, you grasp the game. It’s the same with Bigg Boss,” she remarks.

file-pic-of-dhyani-dave-with-narendra-modi-and-viswanathan-anand

The Ahmedabad-based girl is a Limca Book of Records holder for playing chess simultaneously with 150 contestants, and has also been awarded and felicitated by none other than prime minister Narendra Modi (when he was the CM of Gujarat) and president Pranab Mukherjee this year. Her other feats include beating megastar Aamir Khan to a game of chess at the age of six.

Dhyani Dave predicts Karan and Lokesh will be EVICTED from Bigg Boss!

file-pic-of-dhyani-dave-with-narendra-modi-and-viswanathan-anand

India’s international chess master Dhyani Dave is also a master at dissecting Bigg Boss. “BB is just like a game of chess. It’s a mind game, and all the duh’s lose the fastest,” she winks.

dhyani-dave-1

The calculation queen of the chess board analyses this week’s nominations and predicts that Rahul Dev, inspite of “being thanda” will stay on, and so will Monalisa. “It’s going to be Karan Mehra and Lokesh Kumari who will be eliminated in the double eviction.” But how can Dhyani say for sure?

dhyani-dave-2

“Karan has been like a tree or a sofa in BB. He’s been like one of those sheep, who doesn’t take a stand… neither for himself or for others. People won’t vote for him,” says Dhyani. She feels it’s also time for the television actor to go home! “His wife’s birthday is coming up, he should be home,” she grins.

dhyani-dave-3

But Lokesh Kumari and her weird way of talking has been interesting. People have even expected her to be in the finale. “Haan, par dimaag nahin hai. She is a perfect mand-buddhi (mindless), and people have realized, she is not a player,” says Dhyani standing by her predictions and pointing out that “the novelty of Lokesh’s accent is over and done with”.

international-chess-master-dhyani-dave-with-aamir-khan

Let’s see if Dhyani’s predictions come true when Salman Khan walks in this weekend. And by the way, did we tell you that this is the same Dhyani who beat Aamir Khan at a game of chess at the age of six. He played the game with her later too. But do we need to tell you who won the second time!!

Actress Soma Mangnaanii keen to return to politics on BJP ticket

soma-mangnaanii-5

Television actress Soma Mangnaanii who was seen in the popular Zee TV show Jabb Love Hua, and earlier contested the local polls as an independent candidate from Mumbai’s posh Bandra locality, is “seriously considering” to return to politics in the upcoming BMC elections.

soma-mangnaanii-1

The actress is currently the Secretary for BJP’s Sindhi Cell in Bandra and hopes to represent the party in the upcoming BMC elections in February 2017. “Serving people and spearheading causes like women empowerment, job creation for developing classes and being a voice for them, gives meaning to my life,” says Soma.

soma-mangnaanii-2

She is particularly impressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s currency demonetization move, in an effort to cleanse the country from black money. “It is one of the boldest steps any PM has taken in the history of India,” she quips. “When I look at the changes Mr Modi is trying to bring, they make me feel, I should be part of the change to bring a better life to the people living around me.”

soma-mangnaanii-3

Apart from acting and politics, the multi-faceted Soma dabbles in painting, designing, luxury brands and runs an NGO called Muktangan International Foundation. She has also hosted the horse-racing programme The Winning Post on Ten Sports, done advertisements, Bollywood events, music videos, and even acted in the Kollywood superhit Lesa Lesa directed by Priyadarshan.

“Mard ko dard nahin hota,” says gritty-pretty Rupali Suri

Gladrags MegaModel winner, anchor, host, theatre performer, fashionista and now a film actress; Rupali Suri is heading to become an entertainment all-rounder. The 20-something has played the Indian National Congress President Sonia Gandhi “with a difference” in Bharat Dabholkar’s directorial comic satire play Bottoms Up. And she”ll be seen next in an English film ‘Dad… Hold My Hand’. We decided to check out her feelings and ask her about life before she takes her next flight.

Rupali Suri - Pic 20 (Image Courtesy - Dale Bhagwagar Media Group)

Why did you choose your profession?

Oh, I didn’t. My profession chose me. I used to be a great fan of dancing and talking the talk. One thing led to another and before I knew I was performing and anchoring and hosting shows, and then modeling and doing theatre, and next you will see me in movies. Life is running and I’m keeping pace.

Tell us about your first film ‘Dad… Hold My Hand’.

Its directed by the super-talented late Arun Frank, who was a wizard at directing television serials in the late nineties. I play the lead’s fiancé Ria in the film starring Denzil Smith, Ratna Pathak and Jayesh Kodwani. It is made entirely in English and shot in London and Mumbai. It’s doing the rounds of the festival circuit, before releasing in India and the West.

Rupali Suri - Pic 22 (Image Courtesy - Dale Bhagwagar Media Group)

You also do theatre. Right?

Yes, I play Sonia Gandhi with a difference in Bharat Dabholkar’s play Bottoms Up. It’s great fun. I get to enact many shades, and even grin, smile, take taunts chin up, and once in a while, flip my hair in stylish spectacles and crisp articulately worn cotton sarees. (laughs)

Any barriers you have overcome on this journey?

I was a plump and chubby child and had to contend with weight issues as I grew up. But once I entered showbiz, I became conscious and cautious and transformed myself. Thanks to my supportive mom, I haven’t faced any huge barrier in my personal life. But you see, sometimes fear of the unknown can be a greater emotion than love. I have to admit that at times, I have faced a self-inflicted barrier in my professional life, where I have held myself back and waited for an opportunity to appear. But once I realized that attitude wasn’t working, I slowly and steadily reprogrammed my mind with the ‘go for it’ attitude. Once that was in place, the barriers fell away. And from then, it’s been a steady and sturdy climb.

Rupali Suri - Pic 14 (Image Courtesy - Dale Bhagwagar Media Group)

Who do you think is the most glamourous and fashionable celebrity in Bollywood and why?

Of course, we have Deepika (Padukone) who was a model and then Sonam (Kapoor). The latest in the list is Lisa Hayden. She too dresses her mind.

From the current lot of designers, who do you think matches your fashion?

I’m extremely fond of Rahul Mishra and Vaishali S. The latter’s garments are very feminine and even give that great look in silhouettes. Now that’s all about perfect cut and fit, isn’t it? I also like the sensibilities of some other budding designers. As long as fashion is about how you feel, it can never go out of fashion.

Rupali Suri - Pic 9 (Image Courtesy - Dale Bhagwagar Media Group)

How do you feel to be called a fashionista?

I blush. :p

What is the mantra behind your bedazzling fit body?

I have read somewhere that seventy percent of the body is made in the kitchen and the rest thirty percent is made in the gym. So lookout for your diet and understand your body requirement. As they say, no pain, no gain.

If you could only keep five possessions, what would they be?

My moms sarees, my books, education certificate, all my old pictures and a nose ring I’ve been gifted by my aunt. (grins)

Rupali Suri - Pic 11 (Image Courtesy - Dale Bhagwagar Media Group)

Did Bollywood always appeal to you?

Oh yes, I was quite filmi in my growing up days too. I guess, I’ve danced to each and every one of Madhuri Dixit songs. See, I’ve always had an inclination towards all things creative. I’ve always liked to perceive situations and then see how I can fit in.

A Bollywood dialogue you swear by.

I have grown up teasing my sisters with the line “Mard ko dard nahin hota” from the Bachchan movie Mard. I’ve even played pranks on some film dialogues. The latest in my book is “Maine ek baar commitment kardi, toh main apne aap ki bhi nahi sunta!” Lol.

If a film was remade, which one would you want to be a part of?

Oh, the top billing for that wish would go to Sridevi’s character in Chandni. The role had so many nuances of a woman’s feelings and Sridevi portrayed it with so much heart. Another one would be Dilwale Dhulania Le Jayenge. Kajol was an out-and-out sweetheart in it.

Rupali Suri goes burlesque with Bottoms Up. - Pic 1 (Image Courtesy - Dale Bhagwagar Media Group)

If not a model and actress, what would have been your alternate career choice?

Oops! Never given much thought to that. But now that you ask, I guess, I might have joined my father in business.

How do you manage your personal and professional life?

In our fast-paced world, personal and professional life is often intertwined. But my family helps me stay grounded and manage a balancing act.

What is your ideal partner like?

I guess I’d give more importance to compatibility more than looks or riches. Someone I can talk and share anything and everything with. After all, if a girl cannot open her heart to her partner, then she will always be wanting in life.

Rupali Suri - Pic 7 (Image Courtesy - Dale Bhagwagar Media Group)

“If you cut me, you will find blood and pani-puri,” laughs foodie Rupali Suri

Actress Rupali Suri is probably one of the biggest foodies in Bollywood. And it’s easy to understand that. How? Simple. Ask her about food, and she begins to talk like a girl possessed. Lol. We mean, food-possessed :p
Rupali Suri - Pic 21 (Image Courtesy - Dale Bhagwagar Media Group)
Talking about her favourite restaurants, Rupali likes this place called the The Big Chill in Delhi. But when abroad, she doesn’t really have any favourite, but likes to try out different restaurants, “especially the small boutique restaurants which have great tastes to offer.”

But when it comes to her all-time fav snack, the gal is a hardcore bambaiya. Her favourite street-food is chaat and pani-puri. “In college, I would tell my friends, ‘If you cut me, you will fine blood and pani-puri’. Its madness that I still savour it the same way,” she laughs. “The strange thing is, pani-puris are also a stress-buster for me.”
Rupali Suri - Pic 19 (Image Courtesy - Dale Bhagwagar Media Group)
She’s tried her most weird dish “in China” but wouldn’t tell us what it was. We can imagine why. Gee 😉 But near to home, Rupali’s all-time fav is are “mom-made dahi-kadhi and pakodas with rice. No one can make it as mom does.”

“Eat what your heart desires, but also watch what you eat,” she advises. “After all, it’s no less than an art to balance fitness and food.”

Rupali Suri is happy Salman Khan did not apologize!

“I always thought Bollywood stays silent during Salman Khan controversies because they fear his bigness. But this opinion changed when I met him at IIFA this year,” says actress and fashionista Rupali Suri. “I realized that people do not fear him, they respect him.”

Rupali Suri - Pic 19 (Image Courtesy - Dale Bhagwagar Media Group)

Talking about her interview with the Sultan actor for her IIFA green carpet assignment, the Gladrags MegaModel winner recounts, “There was a lot of chirpy frenzy around, but as soon as Salman walked in and stood before me for the interview, all of a sudden, the atmosphere changed. Everyone was quiet, as if waiting for him to begin.”

Rupali Suri - Pic 21 (Image Courtesy - Dale Bhagwagar Media Group)

“After the interview, the ambience was again relaxed and industry people continued their other work as if nothing had changed. Salman was still around and being cordial with people. There and then it struck me that it was not fear but immense respect that drove them to silence for the few minutes I conducted the interview.”

This realization was overwhelming for Rupali. “This kind of respect comes from his do-gooder image, chilled out nature and of course, the amazing continuing success that Salman commands. Now I understand why Salman did not go about town explaining his stance to the media, or making a show of an apology, when they dragged him in the rape comment controversy. He is so above all such drama.”

Rupali Suri - Pic 25 (Image Courtesy - Dale Bhagwagar Media Group)

Rupali is also thrilled with her interview interactions with Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra, Shiamak Davar, Gulshan Grover, Ranveer Singh and Sanjay Leela Bhansali. “Hrithik turned out to be a super emotional guy who cares so much for his family, especially his kids.”

“Shaimak  Davar who was also my dance teacher when I was in school, is as suave as ever. Bad Man Gulshan Grover is actually a warm, affectionate and very knowledgeable man. Priyanka Chopra is a perfectionist with her quotes while Mr Bhansali and Ranveer share great camaraderie,” she recalls.

Rupali Suri - Pic 24 (Image Courtesy - Dale Bhagwagar Media Group)

Rupali will soon be making her big screen debut, playing a key role in director Arun Frank’s first feature film ‘Dad… Hold My Hand’.
